Spearfishing Courses

Ethics, Safety & Legality

  • Take only what you’ll use; avoid spawning seasons and undersized species.
  • Know your tides, weather, and visibility; never dive alone.
  • Use proper markers (float/flag) and high-visibility kit.
  • Respect Marine Protected Areas & local bylaws; always check current regulations.
  • Handle and dispatch catch humanely; chill quickly for quality and safety.

We brief you on local rules and best practice during each session.

In Season (examples)

  • Seaweeds: kelp tips, dulse, sea lettuce (spring–summer)
  • Shellfish: mussels, winkles, razors (check local rules)
  • Fish (spear): pollack, bass*, mullet (sites/limits vary)

*Bass often has strict size/season limits—confirm locally.

Habitat Clues

  • Reef edges & kelp gullies for pollack and crustaceans
  • Sand/weed transitions for flatfish and razors
  • Clean rocky pools after low tide for shellfish

Preparation & Care

  • Purge shellfish, rinse seaweeds, chill fish quickly
  • Simple shore-friendly recipes & camp cooking tips
  • Food safety basics (temps, transport, storage)
